PCB Design Engineer - ICL

Job Description

The Communications Systems and Spectrum Division (CSSD) of the Information and Telecommunications Laboratory (ICL) is looking for PCB layout experts to support current and anticipated communications programs. CSSD performs a variety of advanced research and development, including RF hardware prototype development, clutter modeling, spectrum planning, network and wireless system design and many others. PCB layout typically involves teams of 2-8 people working in either a traditional or agile development process to produce boards that form custom hardware for use in operational environments and test sets for use in laboratory environments.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineer, Physics, Electromagnetic.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineer, Physics, Electromagnetic and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineer, Physics, Electromagnetic and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineer, Physics, Electromagnetic.

Required Minimum Qualifications

PCB Design:

  • FPGA layout experience
  • High speed digital (DDR, PCI-E, etc)
  • Differential Pairs
  • Analog/RF layout with impedance matching
  • Board material selection
  • Fab instruction document generation

Schematic Design

  • Component selection
  • Component integration
  • Schematic capture
  • Differential Pair Design
  • Layer Stack design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clock and jitter design experience
  • RF tuning and debugging experience
  • Experience with network analyzer, Spec A, etc.

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
