As an optical scientist, you will investigate the physical properties of optical sensor systems and contribute to the implementation of proof-of-concept systems. You will collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team on optical technology. You will take advantage of your experimental and simulation skills and comprehensive understanding of optical physics.

Key Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate has a PhD in Physics, Optics, or EE with a focus on optical or photonics devices and systems: development, design, and experimental characterization. In addition, the candidate should have the following specific qualifications:
  • Comprehensive understanding of optical physics fundamentals
  • Strong hands-on skills in the alignment, test, and characterization of optical devices and systems
  • Experience in optical design, analysis, and simulation, experience with commercial optics simulation tools (e.g. Zemax, Code V, FRED) or experience with stray light analysis is a definite plus
  • Proficiency in the analysis of experimental data
  • Experience in free-space and/or integrated optics
  • Programming experience in Matlab or Python is a plus
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • The ability to work well in an interdisciplinary team environment

Description

As an Optical Scientist, you will have the following

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct simulations and hands-on experiments to predict and characterize the physical properties of novel optical systems
Contribute to the design, implementation and test of proof-of-concept systems
Utilize your skills in data analysis and optical simulation to propose design improvements based on experimental and simulation results
Work in a team and contribute to the implementation of next generation photonics devices

Education & Experience

A PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, EE, or related field, is required
