Apple's Hardware Test Engineering group is recruiting Optical Instrument Design Engineering Managers with optical and instrumentation design experience, strong communication and technical leadership skills.

You will lead the team to brainstorm, design, characterize and deploy metrology equipment used to calibrate and test Apple's new groundbreaking display technology and products. Managing the team to balance the engineering trade-offs between precision, costs, lead-time and throughput is critical.

You will work collaboratively with a creative and diverse team of experienced engineers from all disciplines including instrumentation, core technology, product design and operations teams developing state of the art measurement systems for Apple

Key Qualifications

  • You have an engineering background (Optics/Physics/EE)
  • You're motivated with the dream and ability to become an integral part of Apple's talented, highly creative and dynamic engineering team
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • You know display calibration and test fundamentals
  • You are experienced with optical instrument design
  • You get excited about color management and other display Front-Of-Screen performance evaluation
  • PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Demonstrated management experience
  • High volume display manufacturing equipment design, including architecture, optics, and fixture design
  • Display instrument design experience preferred, e.g. colorimeter, spectrometer etc
  • Project and product management experience strongly preferred

Description
- Manage a team responsible for defining world-class calibration and test processes and equipment manufacturers as applicable to Apple requirements
- Drive process development and capability assessment activities, reviewing design documentation to ensure alignment with process capability
- Set clear goals for results and provide timely reviews of performance throughout the program
- Coordinate with engineering teams across the organization, operations, vendors and contract manufacturers to enable engineering execution
- Identify, research, develop, and qualify world-class equipment manufacturers and suppliers
- Staff planning to support New Product Introduction
- Guide, mentor, and assist in the career development of front line engineers
- Requires up to 15% international travel to support equipment design, deployment, and validation

Education & Experience

MS or PhD in Optical Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Color Science
