We are looking for a world class optical engineer to join a team that is making a big difference in the future of Apple. A successful candidate will not only need to identify new optical characterization techniques, and architect custom optical test systems, but also educate a broad audience of people at Apple about their benefits and tradeoffs. The team features a broad engineering roster including optical engineers, human perception specialists, product design engineers, and experimental physicists, which presents an outstanding opportunity to influence and learn from a diverse group of specialists.

Key Qualifications

  • Prior experience with characterizing imaging system, building optical measurement setups, and performing hands-on measurements
  • Capable of prototyping, conducting design of experiments, and analytical data processing

Description
- Use geometrical optics or wave-optics simulation tools to architect new characterization systems and to implement feedback loops for design and manufacturing
- Identify novel optical test and characterization techniques to measure key performance metrics of complex and novel optical systems
- Build custom metrology hardware and perform hands-on measurements in the lab
- Identify and implement optical metrics and specifications to deliver performance that matter to customer perception.
- Work with suppliers to develop and bring up optical test platforms, perform statistical analysis of data to determine optical performance and quality
- Travel to suppliers (up to 20%) to support engineering builds, and help with failure analysis activities

Education & Experience

B.S. in Physics, Optical Sciences, EE, or equivalent
M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Optical Sciences or EE preferred
