Job Description

GTRIs Signals and Systems Division (SASD) in the Advanced Concepts Laboratory seeks qualified candidates for the position of an Operation Research Analyst in Atlanta, Georgia to work in the Systems Analysis Branch (SAB). This position involves applying operations analysis techniques to challenging real-world problems related to national defense. SASD engages in research in advanced threat analysis, operational employment concepts, advanced EM spectrum management, test and evaluation, and knowledge management primarily through the application of modeling and simulation.

The types of tasks include:

  • Analyze and compare alternative technical solutions to a problem
  • Identify and evaluate system of systems interactions
  • Analyze the performance of  systems in their operational environments
  • Analyze requirements
  • Assess and quantify technical risks for systems
  • Define trade spaces to support technical decision making
  • Evaluate test results and compare collected data to model outputs
  • Predict how a system will perform in a particular performance
  • Document and present findings of analyses for coworkers and external research sponsors

The Signals and Systems Division engages in research related to advanced threat analysis, operational employment concepts, advanced EM spectrum management, test and evaluation, and knowledge management primarily through the application of modeling and simulation.

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelors degree program relevant to this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December 2021.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including numerical modeling, statistical computing, and scripting skills
  • An understanding of the concept of practicing operations analysis on complex, real-world problems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are critical as work often informs decisions at the top levels of the military and intelligence communities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Top Secret Clearance
  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience using Matlab, Python, C, C++, R, and AFSIM
  • Experience or expertise in one or more of the following: Aerospace systems, EO/IR or radar for air and ground-based applications, Electronic warfare techniques, Current and future kill chains, Intelligence gathering and analysis, Military operations, Analysis of military systems, or Military systems/SoS technical knowledge.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
