The Operational Technology Analyst position, located at the Oak Grove power plant in Franklin, TX, is accountable for developing, integrating, maintaining and supporting hardware and software applications and managing the data that supports POC, PdM and other essential fossil plant maintenance, operations and engineering services.  The position serves as a functional expert for applications used to support monitoring and diagnostic activities and also provides subject matter expertise regarding diagnostic and analytical information generated and used by maintenance, operations and engineering departments.  The Technology Specialist is directly accountable to the Technology Support, Operational Technology Manager.

 

Key Roles & Responsibilities  Other duties may be assigned.  Directly or through others, the incumbent will:

  • Develop and maintain technology used in support of POC, PdM and other essential business applications.
  • Achieve a high level of productivity, positive motivation, and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Provide timely resolution to technology problems that adversely affect POC, PdM and other applications.
  • Support integrated technology solutions that promote and support consistent programs, processes, and procedures in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.
  • Coordinate support with 3rd party vendors as needed while maintaining accountability for results.
  • Optimize the use and application of hardware and software technology applicable to POC and PdM business processes.
  • Provide input into the review of activities affecting the use of technology to optimize POC and PdM business processes.
  • Provide input into the review, prioritization, and approval of technology projects based on their effect on safe, reliable, regulatory-compliant, and cost-effective operation of the fossil generation fleet.
  • Plan and execute POC, PdM and other technology projects such that they are deployed within performance, cost, and schedule targets without disrupting power production.
  • Participate in establishing and maintaining positive relations with vendors, other utilities, and related industries, in order to promote cooperative working relationships.
  • Support a departmental culture that fosters accountability for results while promoting the use of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Comply with company/industry policies and standards. 

Requirements

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

  • A bachelors degree in engineering or related technical field and four years related experience, --OR-- a two-year technology degree in computer science, telecommunications, electronics, or related field and six years related experience. – OR: - eight years related experience in the industrial performance and technology fields. 
  • Technical understanding of fossil fleet programs, processes, and procedures.
  • Must have achieved recognized standing in professional field through individual contributions.
  • Advanced degree in Math/Science, Engineering/IT, or Business preferred
  • Applicable industry certification(s) preferred
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, regulations, and industry best practices; budgeting, planning and scheduling; EFH/Luminant policies and procedures preferred
  • Working knowledge of power plant operating parameters and data sources, including digital and analog control systems, plant instrumentation, process data historians, production and maintenance event recording and reporting, and plant thermal and equipment performance parameters preferred
  • Knowledge of applications which include but are not limited to: PI, SKF, SmartSignal, VM600, EtaPro, Performance Calcs and Mdesk preferred
  • Working knowledge of data management technologies, which may include OSIsoft PI, SQL, Oracle, and DB2 database formats, XML, MS.NET, J2EE, C++, and VB preferred
  • Working knowledge of data mining techniques relevant to power plant equipment performance preferred
  • Working knowledge of power plant monitoring and diagnostic technologies preferred
  • Working knowledge of contemporary telecommunications technologies preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communications including public speaking
  • Adept at communicating complex concepts to diverse audiences with varying skills sets.
  • Translate business requirements into functional solutions, and effectively execute those solutions.
  • Maintain high degree of methodological rigor and analysis to support effective decision making
