Job Description

This is a position of high trust by both GTRI and the US National Security community. The Signals and Systems Division (SASD) develops and delivers physics-based models and performs complex math/physics based analysis of highly sensitive electronic warfare and sensor capabilities. The division maintains subject matter expertise in the areas of electronic warfare, systems engineering, threat analysis, modeling and simulation, military operations, national strategy, and intelligence support to acquisition. SASD core competencies are waveform development, signal processing, advanced computing, modeling and simulation in support of effects evaluation, and advanced mathematics. This position requires exemplary professional and personal conduct and adherence to stringent standards and security regulations well beyond that required by the average GTRI employee.

Job Duties:
GTRI has an opening for a senior researcher with a background in tactical aviation. This research position will support the analysis of current and future weapon systems to inform Department of Defense R&D and acquisition efforts. The selected candidate will provide subject matter expertise on current and future threat systems, US and allied weapon systems, tactics, and potential use concepts leveraging emerging civilian and military technology.

The successful candidate will manage projects and programs to meet objectives, working with sponsors, engineers, and GTRI management. They will also participate in sponsor engagement efforts to identify potential opportunities, develop proposals, and manage business lines. The candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidate must be comfortable in a lab environment and be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers.

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Math, Physics, Engineering or related fields and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Math, Physics, Engineering or related fields and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Math, Physics, Engineering or related fields and four (4) years of relevant full time experience.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Master’s degree in Math, Physics, Engineering or related fields and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Doctoral degree in Math, Physics, Engineering or related fields and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Applicants must be able to maintain a TS/SCI clearance
  • Operational experience flying USAF, USN, or USMC tactical aircraft
  • Weapons School or Strike Fighter Tactics syllabus graduate
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill
  • Must be able to convey highly technical material in a clear, concise manner to a non-technical audience
  • Experience managing multifaceted projects from startup to closeout, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning
  • Thorough understanding of DoD acquisition and contracting process
  • Ability to act in varied roles as a technical resource and in leadership positions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current TS/SCI clearance
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Experience writing successful proposals as part of a cross functional team
  • Test Pilot School Graduate
  • Operational or Developmental Test experience

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret/SCI clearance
