We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to participate the LZ dark matter experiment and to develop low instrumental background xenon detectors for future dark matter and neutrino applications. This position is in the Rare Event Detection group of the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division.

Essential Duties
- Contribute and actively participate on the operation and data analysis for the LZ dark matter experiment.
- Investigate sources of low-energy electron background in dual-phase xenon time projection chambers such as LUX and LZ.
- Perform upgrades to and operation of a testbed dual-phase xenon detector at LLNL
- Develop concepts to reduce ionization background.
- Test the effectiveness of these concepts experimentally using the LLNL testbed detector
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results at external conferences seminars and/or technical meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Recent PhD in astroparticle physics, high-energy physics, or related field.
- Knowledge of low-background particle detectors.
- Experience designing and/or operating noble liquid detectors of keV- MeV-scale particles.
- Experience designing, assembling, and running particle physics experiments.
- Experience with data analysis using C++ and ROOT or similar software.
- Experience with simulations of particle physics detectors using simulation packages such as
GEANT.
-Proficient verbal and written communication skills as reflected in effective presentations at seminars, meetings and/or teaching lectures.
-Initiative and interpersonal skills with desire and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: None required.

Note: This is a 2 year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 3 years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
