We have an opening for a Nuclear Analyst to join an interdisciplinary team conducting analysis of chemical processes and their implications for the national security interests of the United States. You will apply a combination of technical expertise, critical thinking, and in-depth analysis of information from all sources to provide threat assessments in support of customer objectives and mission. The position is programmatically within Global Security (GS) Principal Directorates Z Program and will administratively report to the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the SES.2 or SES.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Conduct research on a broadly defined set of sensitive, politically significant national security topics, to include nuclear weapons, nuclear material processes, and related technologies and maintain awareness of relevant current events and information in assigned areas.
- Contribute to the development of a focused national security research program in assigned areas that address key science and technology and policy questions, assist in identifying priorities, defining problems, and proposing analytic methodologies with limited direction.
- Identify priorities, define problems, propose moderately complex to complex analysis methodologies, collect and organize data, and write assessments in support of sponsor and other stakeholder objectives.
- Prepare moderately complex to complex intelligence assessments that adhere to intelligence community analytic standards.
- Present analytic findings as verbal briefings to sponsors and other stakeholders; may include some domestic and international travel.
- Contribute to the development of new program opportunities, including the definition and development of research proposals and interaction with potential sponsors and customers under limited direction.
- Maintain required security in a Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) environment for information that is under the analysts direct control.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition, at the SES.3 Level
- Represent the organization as a main point of contact on multiple complex intelligence related tasks and large projects, working effectively with conflicting priorities.
- Contribute advanced knowledge on national security issues to inform the development of complex strategies and plans to meet programmatic objectives.

Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in engineering (nuclear or chemical), relevant scientific discipline (chemistry, radiochemistry, physics), or the equivalent combination of education and significant prior relevant experience.
- Comprehensive understanding and experience of the nuclear or chemical industry, in one or more of the following areas: equipment or plant design, process development, quality control, quality assurance, criticality safety, or hazardous/radioactive waste management or related technologies.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams to identify priorities, define problems, develop and carry out analytical approaches to gather and assess intelligence data, achieve moderately complex to complex project objectives; includes strength in partnering with outside organizations successfully, under limited direction.
- Experience working effectively under deadlines, reasoning effectively under broadly defined objectives and limited information, coordinating workload on multiple projects simultaneously, and meeting deadlines with conflicting priorities.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams across organizational work units, utilizing effective teamwork and customer service skills.
- Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively collaborate in an interdisciplinary team environment, author technical moderately to complex to complex analyses, and present technical information to external sponsors and customers.
- Ability to travel off-site, including potentially internationally, for sponsor and customer interaction.

In addition, at the SES.3 Level
- Masters degree in engineering (nuclear or chemical), relevant scientific discipline (chemistry, radiochemistry, physics) or the equivalent combination of education and significant prior relevant experience.
- Experience delivering high-quality, impactful and complex technical products.
- Advanced verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively collaborate with internal and external teams and advise and influence senior management and external sponsors.

Desired Qualifications:
- PhD in engineering (nuclear or chemical), relevant scientific discipline (chemistry, radiochemistry, physics) or the equivalent combination of education and significant prior relevant experience.
- Experience conducting research, development, or manufacturing activities in the nuclear or chemical industry (government or commercial positions), in two different areas, such as: equipment or plant design, process development, quality control, quality assurance, criticality safety, or hazardous/radioactive waste management.
- Advanced knowledge and experience working within or with the U.S. intelligence community and/or military analyzing national security issues to include one or more of the following topics: foreign nuclear weapons programs, nuclear material processing, or related technologies.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. Also, you must have the ability to obtain and maintain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.If you are selected, we willinitiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
