NSA Overview

The National Security Agency Office of the Inspector General (NSA OIG) conducts independent oversight to ensure the integrity and efficiency of the operations of the National Security Agency (NSA). As its name implies, the NSA has a critical mission to protect our national security, which it carries out by collecting, processing and disseminating intelligence information derived from foreign signals for intelligence and counterintelligence purposes. Led by a Presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed Inspector General (IG), the NSA OIG conducts audits, investigations, inspections, and special studies that detect and deter waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct within the Agency and its programs, promote the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of Agency operations, and ensure that NSA activities comply with the law and are consistent with civil liberties and U.S. person privacy protections.

In order to promote transparency in its oversight functions, the NSA OIG maintains a robust independent public website at www.oig.nsa.gov, containing its unclassified Semiannual Reports to Congress and other unclassified reports and summaries of its work, as well as other information about the office and its activities. The IG is seeking creative applicants to explore and implement the best ways to inform and educate the public about the mission, organization, capabilities, activities, and performance of the NSA OIG, as well as manage communications to the NSA workforce.

Description of the Position

The NSA OIG seeks a knowledgeable and creative communicator to help the office advance public and workforce awareness of its mission. Candidates with training and/or experience in a communications field, plus the ability to achieve concrete results within complex environments, are preferred. Strong writing, media-relations, visual, and editing skills, with the ability to generate fresh content and make complex ideas accessible, are also desired.
