We have an opening for a Nuclear National Security Analyst to join an interdisciplinary team conducting analysis of nuclear fuel cycle technologies and their implications for the national security interests of the United States. You will apply a combination of technical expertise, computations, critical thinking, and in-depth analysis of information from all sources to provide threat assessments in support of customer objectives and mission. You will engage in complex engineering model development, data analysis, technology assessments and foreign program analysis. The position is within Global Security (GS) Principal Directorates Z Program.

This position will be filled at either the SES.3 or SES.4 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Conduct research on a broadly defined set of sensitive, politically significant national security topics, to include nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear material processes, and related technologies and maintain awareness of relevant current events and information in assigned areas.
- Contribute to the development of a focused national security research program in assigned areas that address key science and technology and policy questions, assist in identifying priorities, defining problems, and proposing analytic methodologies with limited direction.
- Identify priorities, define problems, propose moderately complex to complex analysis methodologies, collect and organize data, and write assessments in support of sponsor and other stakeholder objectives.
- Prepare moderately complex to complex intelligence assessments that adhere to intelligence community analytic standards.
- Present analytic findings as verbal briefings to sponsors and other stakeholders; may include some domestic and international travel.
- Contribute to the development of new program opportunities, including the definition and development of research proposals and interaction with potential sponsors and customers under limited direction.
- Maintain required security in a Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) environment for information that is under the analysts direct control.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

IN ADDITION AT THE SES.4 LEVEL
- Represent the organization as the primary technical contact on multiple intelligence related tasks and large projects, working effectively with conflicting priorities and participate in programmatic sustainment and growth by identifying and addressing complex sponsor needs and prioritizing collaborations with LLNL staff and across the community.
- Contribute advanced subject matter knowledge on national security issues to inform the development of strategies and plans to meet programmatic objectives.
- Create innovative technical tools and evaluate competing characteristics to determine solutions that most effectively meet stakeholder objectives; provide decision insight to customers and stakeholders in highly complex problem areas.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters degree in nuclear engineering, physics, chemical engineering, computational sciences, related field or the equivalent combination of education and significant professional experience, and demonstrated ability to perform independent work.
- Advanced knowledge and significant experience with the scientific and technological issues associated with national security in one or more of the following areas: nuclear fuel cycle, advanced technology/process model development, isotope production, data analytics, fluid flow, industrial chemical facilities, foreign weapon programs, or related emerging technologies.
- Significant experience working with multidisciplinary teams in achieving project objectives; demonstrated strength in partnering with outside organizations successfully.
- Significant experience working effectively under deadlines, reasoning effectively under loosely defined objectives, coordinating workload on multiple projects simultaneously, and meeting deadlines with conflicting priorities.
- Experience working across organizational work units, with demonstrated effective team work and customer relations skills.
- Proficient verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, author intelligence analyses, and present technical information to external sponsors and customers.
- Ability to travel off-site, including potentially internationally, for sponsor and customer interaction.

IN ADDITION AT THE SES.4 LEVEL
- PhD degree in nuclear engineering, physics, chemical engineering, computational sciences, related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience and demonstrated ability to lead the application and development of principles, theories, and concepts in a creative and innovative fashion.
- Proven success delivering expert level, high-quality, impactful technical products.
- Significant experience successfully managing and leading multidisciplinary project teams with expert verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively collaborate with internal and external teams, and advise and influence senior management and external sponsors.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience working within or with the IC analyzing technologies of national security interest to include one or more of the following topics: foreign nuclear fuel cycle programs, computational fluid flow, industrial processes, or related technologies.
- Demonstrated publication record in a relevant national security issue area.
- Current DOE Q or Top Secret clearance.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. Also, you must have the ability to obtain and maintain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.If you are selected, we willinitiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
