Job Description

The modeling and simulation scientist/engineer in the Performance Optimization Branch will perform digital modeling, simulation, and analysis tasks to support electronic warfare research and development. Electronic warfare applications include aircraft self-protection, missile warning, hostile fire indication, laser warning, countermeasures, scene generation, atmospheric phenomena, and electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) signature modeling. The modeling and simulation scientist/engineer will be on an agile team that performs software optimization, verification, validation, and system simulation using dedicated high-performance computing clusters to support sponsor missions.

Job Duties:

  • Develop physics-based models representing EO/IR sensors and systems
  • Develop and optimize detailed mathematical models representing missiles and other threats, aircraft, vehicle, and threat signatures, EO/IR atmospheric propagation, and sensor optics and detectors
  • Create simulations and algorithm optimizations to support military threat warning systems
  • Interface with high performance computing cluster to execute large-scale simulation analysis
  • Travel to sponsor locations to support meetings and attend test events
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics or a related technical discipline.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics or a related technical discipline and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics or a related technical discipline and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics or a related technical discipline.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with Python, C/C++, or Matlab
  • Experience with Linux
  • Educational background to qualify as Research Engineer/Scientist I or Research Engineer/Scientist II 

Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree with a graduation date of May,2021 and skills relevant to this position will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with threat warning systems
  • Experience in the fields of remote sensing, machine learning, or computer vision
  • Experience with Perl, Modtran, Fortran or Ada
  • Experience with Simulink
  • Experience with machine learning tools such as Tensorflow
  • Experience with version control systems (Eg. Git)
  • Active DoD security clearance
  • A Master's degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics or a related technical discipline

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
