Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) has opportunities for Model-Based Systems Engineer research positions within the Sensor and Electromagnetic Application Laboratory (SEAL) in Smyrna, Georgia. The mission of SEAL’s Model-Based Systems Engineering Group is to perform analysis, architecture development and design and engineering functions for complex systems, which includes sensor performance, signal processing, electronic warning, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems deployed on land, air and sea.

The Model-Based Systems Engineering team has responsibilities for:

  • Generation of functional requirements,
  • Requirements traceability,
  • Integrated architecture design,
  • Sensor and architecture modeling,
  • Interface definition across subsystems/components and other external systems,
  • Systems trade study analysis,
  • Algorithm definition and development,
  • Modeling and Simulation (M&S) of sensors and systems, and
  • System performance prediction.

The successful candidate will have real world experience and training directly related to implementing Model-Based Systems Engineering solutions on complex, Department of Defense (DoD) programs. The candidate will be involved in a team environment consisting of GTRI, Government, and Industry partners. This position also requires excellent communication skills in order to convey analysis, design and trade spaces to the customer and users, and to assist in the description of required current and future capabilities. The candidate will be required to write technical papers to assist the project in the need for new research and capabilities.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or other related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or other related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or other related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or other related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May 2020
  • Familiarity with the various phases of Systems Engineering life cycle
  • Good problem solving ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF)
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering with the OMG Systems Modeling Language (SysML)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing Secret or TS/SCI clearance, or the ability to obtain an interim clearance within 30 days and a full clearance thereafter
  • Experience with DoD Intelligence communities
  • Experience with the DoD Acquisition Process
  • Experience with Requirements development and management
  • Experience with Interface definition across multiple subsystems
  • Experience with Enterprise Architecture Tools (Commercial or open-source)
  • Experience with the development of an integrated system model (SysML and DoDAF Diagrams)

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
