Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Air National Guard Program Office (ANGPO) is currently seeking a mobility aircraft systems engineer for a full time research faculty position supporting the Air National Guard/Air Force Reserve Test Center (AATC) in Tucson, AZ. This is a mid-level, customer facing position that will serve a dual role as a mobility aircraft systems engineer and a technical subject matter expert supporting the Mobility Airlift Forces (MAF) Combined Test Flight (CTF). The mobility aircraft systems engineer will coordinate test operations and facilitate flight test planning and execution between GTRI, industry vendors, various government organizations, and system program offices.


  • Conduct systems integration, Electronic Warfare (EW) flight testing, and other flight test related tasks across multiple projects in support of research at AATC for aircraft with airlift and mid-air refueling mission sets
  • Lead and coordinate between multiple specialized teams focused on the integration of hardware, software, and instrumentation for Air Reserve Component (ARC) MAF platforms
  • Execute testing and research on MAF aircraft platforms including EW, avionics, and weapons systems capabilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
  • A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with EW and avionics systems
  • Familiarity with flight test operations
  • Familiarity with telemetry, flight test data collection and aircraft mission data products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Aircraft systems experience with military mobility aircraft (airlift, aerial refueling, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Air National Guard Air Force Reserve Test Center operations.
  • Experience conducting flight test operations to include planning, execution and post-test data analysis.
