The Raytheon Missile and Defenses (RMD) Mechanical Product Team (MPT) leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The Mechanical Product Team uses state of the-art tools, processes, technology, and RMD's Six Sigma principles, MPTs capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.

The Mechanical Products Team (MPT), Ground Launched Effectors Department is currently searching for a Mechanical Engineering Section Lead to work on a multi-discipline team to assist and lead the design of products and subsystems. This position requires frequent onsite support to the Tucson Engineering Labs, proficiency with missile systems hardware integration, and periodic travel to test sites.


The Ground Launched Effectors teams contribute to national security by providing solutions that enable battle space dominance for domestic and allied land forces.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
The Section Leader performs direct line management activities for approximately 7-15 engineers within the CUAS program area. These activities include technical oversight of program support and projects, technical development of people, training, performance management, and resource allocation.

Additional responsibilities include assisting the MPT DLs with management of MPT staffing and technical oversight across the CUAS programs, coordinating program staffing needs and reductions, optimizing resource utilization, and interviewing applicants.

You will team with the Department Leader in the execution of MPT and Raytheon Missile & Defense
Engineering goals.

You will ensure two-way communication for section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments, performance, and recognition.

An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for 2 additional years of experience.

A Ph.D. in a related field may be substituted for 5 additional years of experience.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering discipline.
  • Six (8) years of professional experience in mechanical design or production support
  • Demonstrated success in prior leadership roles (frontline or project leader)
  • Experience with EVMS (earned value management systems) or similar
  • Experience in military applications or environments
  • Six Sigma experience
  • Must currently have or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

    Qualifications We Value:
  • Advanced degree in aforementioned disciplines. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard
  • Familiarity with Performance Development Process
  • Familiarity with Engineering Team Strength, Labor Forecasting (ELF) or similar
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Proven multitasking skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in past work performance
  • Working knowledge or experience with military program design and development, and production
  • Experience with proposal capture process (development of compliant basis of estimates (BOEs) and white-sheet development
  • Familiarity with the Estimate at Complete (EAC) Process
  • EVMS Certified
  • Demonstrated team player, with excellent collaboration and mentoring skills
  • Advocate for process improvement (eg CMMI, R6S), team builder, and able to build strong relationships and effectively partner with internal resources.
  • Six Sigma Specialist certified
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience within Defense and/or Aerospace Industry
  • Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development
  • Working knowledge of RMD processes and procedures
