Job Summary:
The Precision Control & Mechanisms Department is an engineering organization within the Mechanical Products Team (MPT) in Tucson, AZ/Huntsville, AL. The department is in need of a Section Lead to provide frontline management activities and leadership for approximately 15+ engineers who develop new electronics packaging solutions. The Electronics Packaging team is responsible for developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems across multiple missile programs. Team responsibilities include mechanical outlines and construction, form and fit, electrical layout for structural and thermal consideration, connector selection, interfaces within the electronics package and next higher assembly, the technical data package and verification. The Section Lead role includes technical oversight of Electronics Packaging development programs, technical development of people, training, performance management, hiring, and resource allocation.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • You will ensure two-way communication with section members, who are senior leaders within the technology.
    • set the expectations and verify the execution of job assignments, apprenticing, performance and recognition.
    • Responsibilities also include coordinating program staffing needs and reductions, optimizing resource utilization and interviewing applicants.
  • Will work with the Department Lead in the development of this section, including definition of charter, objectives and organizational development, and in the execution of MPT engineering goals.
  • As the manager for the section, you will lead large, diverse teams of 15+ engineers by providing highly skilled Electronics Packaging design services across all program phases focused mainly on missile development including packaging architecture, mechanical volume allocation and fit, master interconnect documents and models, trade studies, connector selection, sealing and shielding, DFMA, thermal management onto various naval, ground and air platforms and structural integrity.
  • Design services will also include these disciplines; MCAD/ECAD coordination and verification, packaging architecture, coordination of electronics thermal and structural analysis, design verification testing, and TDP documentation.
  • You may also be called upon to provide proposal support including cost ROMs, formal Basis of Estimates, project plans and technology maturity plans.

An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for 3 additional years of experience.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
  • 10 years of overall engineering experience in mechanical design and/or Electronic Packages
  • Prior leadership roles (frontline or project leader)
  • Five (5) years direct experience in hardware engineering design, development and/or production support
  • Experience in military or defense or commercial applications and environments
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
  • Twelve (12) or more years of overall engineering experience in systems, electrical or mechanical design, preferably in the development of Electronics Packaging in all development phases
  • Masters of Science in an Engineering discipline
  • Thorough knowledge of military specifications
  • Thorough knowledge of electronics packaging design architecture and the process to develop high reliability electronics in stressing environments through implementation of analysis results into design iterations and verification testing
  • Willingness to travel, including international
  • Familiarity with Performance Development Process
  • Familiarity with Engineering Labor Forecasting
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in past work performance
  • Working knowledge or experience with either missile design or development, production support and integration
  • Experience with Military Missile systems and electronics
  • Experience with the proposal capture process (development of compliant basis of estimates and ROMs)
  • Familiarity with the Estimate at Complete Process
  • EVMS Certified
  • Six Sigma certified
  • Demonstrated team player, with excellent collaboration and mentoring skills
  • Advocate for process improvement (e.g., CORE, six sigma, R6), team builder and able to build strong relationships and effectively partner with internal and external resources
