Raytheon Missiles and Defense (RMD) Mechanical Engineering leads in mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar and other military equipment. The Mechanical Products Team uses state-of-the-art tools, processes technology and Six Sigma principles.

RMD Mechanical Products Team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in the Radar and Electronic Systems (RES) Department. The RES Department provides mechanical and hardware systems engineering expertise and is located in Fullerton, CA and San Diego, CA. This position is expected to be in the San Diego, CA location. The department supports Command and Control (C2), Battle Field Radar (BFR), and Naval Systems products within the RMD business both domestically and internationally.

The Mechanical Engineer will be reporting directly to the Mechanical Electronic Subsystems section in the department; providing mechanical design, prototype, testing & installation support. Position requires performing and collaboration within RMD on research, design, analysis, and development in such areas as mechanical systems, thermal systems, materials, test equipment, hardware processes, or manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Hardware Design Support Requirements based Drafting & Design using CAD tools, peer review engineering documentation, build/assembly support, and installation support
  • Perform research, design, analysis, and development in the areas of mechanical design and engineering.
  • Perform technical drafting services in support of engineering drawing releases
  • Ensure tasks and assignments adhere to company internal processes and procedures.
  • Follow and ensure compliance with RMD and Mechanical Engineering process initiatives
  • Execute RMD Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and RES department strategies and goals.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of systems/software/hardware engineering experience
  • Proficiency with Computer Aided Design (CAD) tool CREO
  • Experience with Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Hardware Design, Assembly, Installation, Integration, and Test
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with Radar, Command and Control, and Naval Systems product areas
  • Experience in routing/switching/system administration domain knowledge
  • Interest/ Experience with hands-on work; ie electronics packaging, HW assembly and deployment, field installation.
  • MS in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related Applied Sciences field
  • Strong analytical skills & excellent written and oral communication skills; knowledge of MS Office or other presentation tools
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at one time in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work well in a team environment & effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Ability to obtain a secret clearance

Required Education:

  • BS in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related Applied Sciences field


This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization.
