Job Summary:
The Mechanical Products Team (MPT), Shipboard Effectors Department is seeking Mechanical Engineers for our Louisville KY site in both development and production support across multiple programs.

This Mechanical Engineering position performs in alignment to expectations in the design, development and production support areas associated with mechanical designs, validation principles, qualification processes, procurement, and production processes across a design life cycle. Development work may include requirements understanding, concept development, DFMAs, PFMAs, margin analysis, technical data package (TDP) development, application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles, engineering test principles, preparation of technical analysis reports, and presenting in design reviews.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
As a Mechanical Engineer in an individual contributor role, responsibilities will include technical execution of tasks, recommending solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of various mechanical sub-systems both in the engineering lab and the factory floor both at Raytheon Missiles & Defense and at suppliers. Post critical design activities include contributing to first article inspections, work instruction reviews, material dispositions, and root cause investigations to production issues. Decisions are data driven and require preparing technical justification analysis reports and presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards.

Other responsibilities to anticipate include a commitment to program schedule and budget, and 3D parametric modeling.

This position can be a Mechanical Engineer II or a Sr. Mechanical Engineer I, based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar Engineering discipline

  • Two (2) years of directly related work experience in mechanical design and design documentation for Mechanical Engineer II

  • Four (4) years of directly related work experience in mechanical design and design documentation for Sr Mechanical Engineer I

  • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity

  • Proficient in CAD tools (modeling and drawing)

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Value:

  • Four (4) years of professional experience related mechanical design and documentation in Aerospace & Defense industry for Mechanical Engineer II

  • Six (6) years of professional experience related mechanical design and documentation in Aerospace & Defense industry for Sr Mechanical Engineer I
  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative
  • Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principles, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development
  • Willingness to support tasks as experience allows relative to both design development and production support
  • Proficient in CREO (modeling and drawing) and Windchill (PDM)
  • Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities
  • Active DoD issued security clearance

This is a dual grade requisition for a G07 Mechanical Engineer II and a G08 Sr Mechanical Engineer II
