Job Description

The candidate will be part of the Mechanical and Thermal Engineering Group (MTEG) within Intel Validation Engineering (iVE). MTEG is the design center of excellence for all Mechanical and Thermal validation hardware (sockets, component debug hardware, chassis, lab automation solutions, passive heatsinks, active heatsinks, thermal margining tools, system thermal solutions) for nearly every silicon product across all major market segments. The candidate will be exposed to a variety of design and analysis opportunities in both Thermal and Mechanical engineering across multiple business segments. In addition, the candidate will have opportunities to work with external customers (OEMs and ODMs). MTEG consists of Mechanical and Thermal Design Engineers across 7 geographies, and the candidate will have opportunities to learn the engineering development of a variety of hardware solutions and technologies.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Participating in MTEG development teams during work planning sessions
  • Interfacing with the board design engineering teams and internal customers in documenting product requirements
  • Developing mechanical and thermal design concepts using CAD and Thermal Design software tools Interfacing with external suppliers to finalize the design
  • Conducting static stress finite-element analysis of the mechanical system to ensure reliable solution
  • Performing thermal simulations against component and system boundary conditions
  • Creating detailed production drawings
  • Evaluating and testing of the prototypes and qualifying the mechanical and thermal hardware for the production build
  • Working with stakeholders to set clear program expectations and post program feedback 
  • Creating assembly instructions and providing assembly training
  • Working with suppliers to meet challenging cost, quality, and timeline targets
  • Driving action and closure on manufacturing issues impacting ability to deliver the products
  • Developing next generation mechanical, thermal and interconnect technologies to solve future validation challenges

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. Experience listed below would be obtained through a combination of your schoolwork/classes/research and/or relevant previous job and/or internship experiences. This is an entry level position and will be compensated accordingly.

Minimum qualifications:

  • This position is not eligible for Intel immigration sponsorship
  • The candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical/Thermal Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering, with 1+ years relevant of professional/academic experience or a Master's degree in Mechanical/Thermal Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering

1+ years of applied experience in:

  • Using Pro/E Creo (Modeling, Assembly, Detailing, Sheet Metal, Mechanical) or Solidworks
  • Finite Element Analysis
  • Fundamentals in mechanical and thermal engineering and great aptitude for creative problem solving and innovation
  • Engineering design and analysis tools
  • Mechanical/Thermal hardware development life cycle
  • Manufacturing processes including CNC, sheet metal, 3D Printing, and plastic parts

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in/of:

  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • PDM tools such as Windchill
  • Component and platform/system thermals
  • Thermal margining tools and controls
  • Other manufacturing processes
