The Panel Process and Optics (PPO) team crafts and develops groundbreaking display technologies to support Apple's phenomenal product line. The team features a collaborative and hands-on environment that fosters engineering perfection, creativity, and innovation.

We are looking for a skilled mechanical or opto-mechanical engineer with a proven track record of mechanical design and hands-on optical lab experience to work with the team in the development of a new module. The job includes developing optical assemblies for metrology tools and prototype module fabrication. Ideal candidates will also be able to implement computer interfaces and write software scripts to automate these tools and to facilitate data analysis.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience in opto-mechanical design using NX, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools
  • Understanding of precision mechanics concepts, principles, and tolerance analysis
  • Comfortable with hands-on optics laboratory work
  • Experience with Matlab, Python, or similar for basic automation, motion control, and analysis
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel when required

Description
- Design, specify, and build mechanical assemblies including optical components for fabrication and test. Procure custom and off-the-shelf components from vendors
- Develop, automate, and operate new metrology tools to validate module optical performance and identify root cause of shortcomings
- Identify appropriate experiments and performance studies, and support execution of tests
- Build operator-friendly jigs and fixtures appropriate for small scale prototype builds by process engineering team

Education & Experience

M.S. + 5 years of experience in relevant field; Physics, Optical Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.

Additional Requirements

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • - Proven track record of transferring early-stage development tool concepts to mass production vendors
  • - Experience in Zemax, LightTools, or similar optical simulation/modeling tools
  • - Hands-on experience with interferometers and optical metrology tools is a plus

Mechanical Engineer starts at a minimum annual salary of $91,800. The actual pay may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments as well as relocation.
