About Us:
Raytheon Missiles and Defense (RMD), a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, security and civilian markets, is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer within the Airframes and Advanced Effectors Department, a subset of the Mechanical Products Team. The department provides mechanical engineering support for some of the most innovative effector/missile programs in the world.

Job Summary and Description:
  • Work with multi-disciplinary engineers to propose, design and develop, and integrate/test hardware within the Airframes and Advanced Effectors mechanical design department
  • Contribute to one or more of our contract-funded and internally-funded efforts, each of which is at a different phase of development (proposal, design, and integration/test). Engineers are generally assigned to one effort at a time.
  • Communicate with cross-disciplined, diverse engineering team members and suppliers to study, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance to requirements
  • Work independently under limited supervision and act as the responsible engineer, often in a project management role, over entire projects or processes within an effort. This often requires the ability to delegate and review the work of others.
  • Design, integrate, and test mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across teams in order to ensure successful hardware performance, usually demonstrated through flight tests.
An advanced degree can be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Masters is equal to 2 years of experience. A Ph.D. can account for 5 years of experience as required for this position.

  • Experience with thermal and structural analyses or with analysts to specify requirements and design to environments
  • Demonstrated collaboration with cross-disciplined teams, using trust, respect, and innovation to drive results towards a shared vision. Experience with effective communication (written and verbal) during collaboration with others in order to document design decisions and results, to perform trade studies, and to communicate to program management and customers through presentations and reports.
