Raytheon Missiles and Defense (RMD), a technology and innovation leader specializing in defense, security and civilian markets, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer within the Airframes and Advanced Effectors mechanical design department, a subset of the Mechanical Products Team. The primary work location will be on-site at the Raytheon Tucson office (or virtually, temporarily); some travel may be required to meet and work with vendors and to support testing and other activities as needed. Job Description
Work with multi-disciplinary engineers to propose, design and develop, and integrate/test hardware within the Airframes and Advanced Effectors mechanical design department
Contribute to one or more of our contract-funded and internally-funded efforts, each of which is at a different phase of development (proposal, design, and integration/test). Engineers are generally assigned to one effort at a time but may work multiple efforts over the course of several years.
Communicate with cross-disciplined, diverse engineering team members and suppliers to analyze, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its capabilities and compliance to requirements
Job Duties Design, integrate, and test mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across teams in order to ensure successful hardware performance, usually demonstrated through flight tests.
Required Skills/Basic Qualifications
2+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test of defense-related components or systems
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering discipline
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for technical analysis, data sorting/plotting, and technical documentation
Desired Skills/Qualifications
4+ years of professional experience in the defense industry
Active DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance
Computer-aided Design (CAD) experience in Creo Parametric and Windchill
Basic understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), basic tolerance analyses, and drawing practices and interpretation for mechanical hardware
Experience with thermal and structural analyses or with analysts to specify requirements and design to environments
Experience in airframe development, electronics packaging, mechanisms, for missiles or similar applications
Demonstrated collaboration with cross-disciplined teams, using trust, respect, and innovation to drive results towards a shared vision.
Experience with effective communication (written and verbal) during collaboration with others in order to document design decisions and results, to perform trade studies, and to communicate to program leadership and customers through presentations and reports.
