Apple is looking for a Lithium Ion Battery (LIB) Material Engineer with expert knowledge of battery chemistry/materials, and who possesses creativity and leadership skills to enable and drive the development of new LIB technologies

Key Qualifications

  • Five plus years experience in material development related to Li-ion chemistry, the development of new materials, and/or qualifying new materials into production. Familiarity with rapid development/testing processes and methods related to rechargeable Li-ion cells strongly preferred.
  • Experience with the synthesis and qualification of new cathode/anode/electrolyte materials.
  • Experience in fabrication of battery electrodes and electrolytes with new and/or non standard material components.
  • Experience with construction and testing of LIB cells of various sizes and form factors.
  • Motivated, self-starter with excellent time management skills and strong priority oriented approach to areas of focus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with the ability to clearly and accurately explain technical issues.
  • Familiar with relevant industry standards and battery validation.

Description

You will own key elements of material development to assist the technical team in proving out new and exciting materials and ensure delivery of a successfully integrated LIB. This includes a lead role in developing and optimizing the laboratory processes and testing methods needed to drive material progress, as well as a role in the design, execution, and analysis of experiments needed to drive the development cycle from new materials into practical battery components.

In addition to your technical skills, you will sustain highly interactive relationships with internal and external partners with your excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will coordinate internal and external resources to realize new technologies and improve fundamental understandings of the key challenges that limit material performance.

The ideal candidate has deep background in development of LIB materials, laboratory process/testing development, and is able to apply their experience to a diverse array of problems.

Education & Experience

B.S. or M.S. in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or similar.

Additional Requirements

  • Travel to external vendors and/or suppliers is expected. This is a role in Product Design - though travel is expected it is at reasonable intensity.
