Role Number:200244903

Are you passionate about improving the performance of maps services that are used by millions of users worldwide? The maps team is seeking a highly technical performance engineer to drive next generation of our performance evaluation. We're looking for critical thinkers who would like to play a key role in shaping the team's roadmap in how to evaluate performance and reliability of our services that power the Maps ecosystem. This position requires a self-motivated individual with strong problem solving skills who can contribute in a dynamic team environment.

Key Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience around architecting performance evaluation solutions for large scale
  • systems
  • Strong software coding experience with Python, Java, or Scala
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as using Kibana and Elastic Search
  • Deep understanding of software design principles, ability to influence feature and design from performance and capacity perspective
  • Experience with load generation tools such as Gatling
  • Experience troubleshooting latency critical software, able to isolate bottleneck in system
  • Wide breadth of knowledge across all layers, including services, operations system, network, and hardware

Description

In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating the performance characterics of the services that are used to power the Maps ecosystem, responsibilties include:

Define and implement the evaluation strategy to ensure we meet the performance goals while releasing software on a fast cadence. Design and enhance test methodology for load and stress testing.

Collaborate with operations team for capacity analysis.

Partner with engineering teams to understand performance impact for new features. Analyze performance metrics to identify optimization opportunities.

Evangelize performance engineering best practices across all Maps teams. Provide technical leadership and strategic direction on

Education & Experience

MA / MS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
