The Maps Metrics Engineering team is looking for a software backend engineer with a passion for turning big data into applications providing insights that can drive improvements at Maps. The successful applicant will develop solutions that ease the consumption of Maps usage metrics to help measure and improve the accuracy and quality of our products.

Key Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience building backend services working with web applications
  • Proven working experience in Java and Python development
  • 2+ years of experience with Hadoop, Hive
  • Familiar with database systems and technologies like PostgreSQL, Cassandra, HDFS, AWS S3
  • 2+ years of experience with search & OLAP engines such as Elasticsearch or Druid
  • Advocate of software development including coding standards, code reviews, source control
  • management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Good time management skills and can incrementally deliver to tight schedules
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies, processes and work independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Description

In a privacy first environment, the Maps Metrics Engineering pipeline collects customer usage logs across the millions of devices using Apple Maps and turns them into meaningful metrics. Such metrics are essential for understanding new feature adoption, measuring the success of AB experiments, and monitoring the overall health of Maps.

In this role you will be responsible for building solutions that facilitate usage metrics via dashboards to derive insights about Maps and its users. You will also participate in developing applications monitoring the quality of Maps metrics, data and services. You will be responsible for the full software development lifecycle to deliver reliable systems built on top of Big Data infrastructure that service a number of internal customers.

You will work in a highly collaborative environment with engineers, data scientists, and product analysts to improve a core product that touches millions of users worldwide each day.

Education & Experience
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
