The Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMS) Missions Assurance (MA) organization enables engineering quality solutions, capabilities and services to the business. Most important is collaboration with our functional partners and customers (internal and external) to execute and solve problems quickly and efficiently. MA embeds itself throughout the Engineering lifecycle to prevent defects from reaching the warfighter and to ensure flawless program execution to meet quality, cost, schedule and technical objectives.

We have an immediate need for a Section Manager for the Air Power and Strategic Missile Defense Software Assurance Section located in Woburn, MA. This Section is responsible to partner with Engineering to ensure work products are free from defects throughout the engineering lifecycle. As a Front Line Leader (FLL), you are an important member of the Missions Assurance Leadership Team. The section manager provides technical oversight and direction to employees in support of their work assignment, as required.

The Software Assurance Manager will lead a quality engineering team of direct report, individual contributors ensuring verification and validation of design, development and integration of RMD software products. Software products include artifacts related to embedded code, simulations, firmware, and other artifacts as required by contract. You will help to ensure programs meet customer objectives for Mission Assurance, working closely with other Cross Business Teams (CBTs), to affect rapid closure of issues utilizing analytical capabilities and communication skills. Responsibilities include the following:
  • Program Execution Support participate in all phases of software product design and development lifecycle. The Software Assurance Manager will ensure all program software products have appropriate quality requirements identified, allocated and planned for. The Software Assurance Manager will generate inputs to Software, Systems, I&T and other work products.
  • Product Continuous Improvement perform independent quality evaluations/risk assessments of activities across the software product development lifecycle. The Software Assurance Manager will facilitate root cause analysis and corrective action planning for all software-related nonconformances.
  • Product Integrity ensure integrity of software products & drawings. The Software Assurance Manager will monitor and authorize software test and release, as well as perform static code analysis and evaluate results.
  • Talent Development performance development, coaching and mentoring, recruiting, skills development, learning and career development, and staffing forecast fulfillment.
  • Process Improvement improve, streamline, and deploy quality and software engineering processes to design in quality and eliminate escapes. The Software Assurance Manager will participate in, and actively lead, project activities to improve key processes. Partner with organizations within and outside of Quality and Mission Assurance to improve product quality and process effectiveness.
  • Knowledge and Tools Development provide Quality personnel with knowledge and tools to improve product quality in areas such as code analysis, root cause corrective action, information assurance and development methodologies.

The candidate also performs technical, cost, and schedule oversight of the products developed by members of his/her section. The Software Assurance Manager often acts independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of software products. The candidate determines and pursues courses of action to obtain the desired results. Typical work involves assuring the integrity of software (embedded, test equipment, and vendor supplied), firmware, configurable logic, and modeling and simulation, across various disciplines within Engineering.

Required Skills:
  • Must have or be able to obtain a DoD issued Secret Security Clearance
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of technical/engineering experience in a Quality environment with emphasis in software development.
  • OR
  • A minimum of 8 years applying advanced technical principles in the software development process and practice with experience in the following:
    • software development processes; firmware development processes and/or configurable logic development process
    • conducting software quality assessments of software products and artifacts
Desired Skills:
  • Advanced experience with Agile or DevOps software development. Emphasis on software testing, continuous integration and continuous monitoring is preferred.
  • Project and workload management skills to utilize resources effectively to satisfy demanding internal customers and implementation schedules
  • Technical leadership of small teams
  • Ability to coordinate with product (Integrated Product Teams and Quality Systems Managers) and functional teams
  • Ability to define and review quality requirements for program bids and proposals
  • "Customer" oriented, and driven to meet or exceed expectations
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong team-player
  • Possess the ability to serve as an organizational spokesperson
  • Act as an advisor to management, customers and team members on Software Quality concepts and practices
  • Working knowledge of EVMS, CMMI, ISO9000/AS9100 and IPDS
  • Experience using Six Sigma practices to continuously improve software systems created using the Quality Management System requirements based on AS9100 and AS9115
  • Practical experience of Guidance, Navigation, Signal Processing, Radar and Discrimination systems and associated algorithms is highly desired
  • Advanced degree M.S.

Required Education:
BS in Engineering field (Preferred Majors: Software, Computer, Electrical, or Systems).
