Advanced Technologies Quality and Mission Assurance is seeking a Quality Manager.


Note: This position will be awarded as Manager I (Quality Control) or Manager II (Quality Control) based on qualifications.

Within Raytheon Missiles & Defense, the Advanced Technologies Effectors Quality team provides leadership for integration and execution of Quality practices and processes for the Development Engineering area including Hypersonic Weapons and Applied Modular Technologies.


C-HGB Quality Manager - The Advanced Offensive Hypersonic Weapons and Counter Hypersonic Weapons Mission Areas within Advanced Technology are developing the cutting edge of several hypersonic weapon technologies. Hypersonics are highly maneuverable missiles that can travel at speeds in excess of Mach 5 five times the speed of sound. Within the family of hypersonic weapons, the Common Hypersonic Glide Body (C-HGB) program is looking for a Quality Manager to lead the quality assurance engineering effort.

AMT Quality Manager - The Applied Modular Technologies program provides discriminating capabilities to the mission areas as the trusted supplier of choice for Modular Products throughout the product lifecycle that are aligned with Raytheon Technologies program needs. Driving modularity and composability to maximize the probability of contract award for new pursuits and to enable Velocity and Efficiency in contract execution. Support USG modularity and open architecture initiatives to provide off-the shelf plug-and-play Products and maintain an inventory of these products to enable rapid turnaround of capability from the drawing board to the field and reduce overall life-cycle costs and obsolescence.

The Program Quality Manager will lead a development program Quality effort to analyze, control and improve product quality for RMD AT products through the following activities:

  • Establish Front End of the Business Quality Engineering best practices during the development phase of a missile program with a goal of increasing predictability for delivery and performance
  • Actively pursue opportunities to increase margins while maintaining or increasing product Quality
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with key stakeholders across a program, the functions, or business as required
  • Utilize factory and program quality metrics to lead and champion product quality improvement, defect reduction and elimination of escapes
  • Systematically translate, analyze, and prioritize customer needs, legal and contractual requirements, and company policy and objectives into quality performance standards; analyze/validate measurement system capabilities;
  • Analyze product performance using statistical methods to understand root cause and identify significant variances to predicted/targeted values
  • Perform analysis of nonconformities to characterize causes and develop effective containment and elimination plans;
  • Ability to obtain secret clearance

The Quality Manager will also act as project lead on functional continuous improvement activities that are outside of their primary program responsibilities.

Required Skills:

  • Six (6) years related Quality, Engineering, and/or Manufacturing Engineering experience Manufacturing process knowledge (assembly, inspection, test), in a role requiring the execution of engineering principles (theory and practice)
  • Experience working with external suppliers, customers, and experience with various inspection techniques
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in failure analysis, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, implementation of robust process controls
  • Experience leading a team of direct reports while maintaining program/projects budgets
  • Experience with the Development Engineering process and efficient application quality policy to assure risk mitigation while supporting team objectives
  • Required Education : Bachelors Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics

Desired Skills:
  • Eight (8) years related Quality, Engineering, and/or Manufacturing Engineering experience Manufacturing process knowledge (assembly, inspection, test), in a role requiring the execution of engineering principles (theory and practice)
  • MS Engineering / Technical or MBA
  • Experience with Six Sigma methodology and tools such as lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, process mapping, Pareto analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Design of Experiments, Measurement System Analysis, Statistical Process Control, variation management, etc.
  • Experience and knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, CMMI or Mission Assurance Provisions
  • Experience with new RMD strategy
  • Six Sigma, Lean and / or American Society for Quality (ASQ) certifications
  • Mission Assurance Certification (Internal candidates)
  • General knowledge of industry technical standards (such as ANSI, CMMI, ASTM, etc.)
  • General knowledge of aerospace / defense products and systems technologies
  • Knowledge of Performance Specification and Requirements Management Practices
  • Able to facilitate cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities
  • Strong leader that exhibits presence and influence
  • Demonstrated experience in development/usage of Quality metrics and the identification/institution of perceptive verifications used to assess and prevent issues.
  • Passionate, high-energy, self-starting team player who achieves goals and strives for continuous improvement
  • Proven successes in building and maintaining relationships with multiple suppliers and customers (internal and external)
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work well with customers, suppliers, and in a team environment
  • Ability to act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational programs and factories and/or supplier health development
  • Effective verbal and written communication and networking skills to work with upper management and customers
  • Ability to comprehend and translate external and internal requirements into effective work instructions for various internal functions
