Job Description

Georgia Tech Research Institute's (GTRI) Support Services Department (SSD) seeks a student assistant to begin working part-time. The student will work under the guidance of a GTRI facilities manager to perform the following activities which will provide a solid foundation for the student in many maintenance duties such as using power tools, moving furniture, and carpentry and painting.

Student assistants will:

  • Assist the maintenance staff in various multi-craft tasks in maintenance and minor repairs of equipment and buildings
  • Act as helper to trades/crafts personnel in the installation, repair, and plumbing systems, including carpentry and painting work
  • Load, unload and move furniture, equipment, fixtures, and other items as needed
  • Additional duties as required

Required Minimum Qualifications

Student Assistant/Research Assistant

  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree at a University System of Georgia institution
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university during working semesters
  • Must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Ability to operate hand/power tools, motor vehicles (may include forklift), and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment
  • A basic working knowledge in equipment maintenance and repair and building construction support and maintenance is required
  • Skills in customer service, communications and use of office related computer applications are required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer a Sophomore or Junior in academic standing and desire to work multiple semesters
  • Prefer flexible morning and/or early afternoon availability Monday-Friday 

Hours per Week

20 hours per week

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
