Job Description

GTRIs Biosensing and Signal Analytics Branch in the Aerospace and Acoustics Technologies Division (AATD) within the Aerospace, Transportation, and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS) is looking for a researcher with experience in Signal Processing and Machine Learning. The Biosensing and Signal Analytics Branch (BSAB) focuses on advanced signal processing, machine learning, algorithm development, and sensor technologies for developing, testing, and integrating technologies in support of the Department of Defense. BSAB's primary work is in physiological and environmental sensing, communications, tactical sensing and related tactical applications, and testing and evaluation. The ideal candidate for this position will be a motivated researcher with previous experience in signal processing and machine learning who can think outside of the box and is looking for a dynamic and challenging work environment.

Job Duties

The ideal candidates will be expected to support multiple projects simultaneously, attending technical meetings, completing technical tasks, collaborating with peers, and presenting their research at internal and external meetings. Specific job duties may include:

  • Develop signal processing and machine learning algorithms to support tactical sensing applications
  • Performs data organization, analysis, and characterization
  • Initiates, designs, implements, and evaluates signal studies and data collections to support research projects
  • Develop and present technical presentations for internal peer reviews and sponsor design reviews
  • Interface and coordinate with other team members including other developers, testers, system engineers, etc.
  • Supports data collection events and other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position will be considered
  • 1-2+ years working experience with Matlab, Python and/or C, C++, or C#
  • Experience working in a research environment
  • Familiarly with Signal Processing and Machine Learning/AI concepts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience in digital signal processing, statistical signal processing, and wavelet analysis
  • Experience in physiological sensing and biomedical applications
  • Experience with the acquisition and analysis of measured data
  • Familiarity in translating algorithms to embedded applications
  • Knowledgeable in version control software such as GIT
  • Experience working with the DoD
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing research projects, making technical presentations, and report writing

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
