Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute's Machine Learning and Analytics Branch is looking for candidates experienced in computer programming that are interested and capable of supporting, developing, and/or deploying machine learning and artificial intelligence approaches to various applications, including computer vision, perception and/or decision making. Responsibilities may include:

  1. development of infrastructure to support the evaluation of machine learning algorithms,
  2. implementation of novel machine learning algorithms, and
  3. support of real world application domains (e.g, image analysis or various decision-making tasks).

Since the projects involve cutting edge research and development, there are diverse opportunities including development of scalable infrastructure for existing algorithms towards new applications as well as development of new algorithms.

The position will involve research and development from the fast prototyping and programming of novel algorithms to the generation of research reports, publications, proposals, and briefs to customers. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are therefore required.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mathematics, Electrical Computer Engineering, or related fields.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mathematics, Electrical Computer Engineering, or related fields and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mathematics, Electrical Computer Engineering, or related fields and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mathematics, Electrical Computer Engineering, or related fields.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program relevant to this position will be considered.
  • Must have 2 - 3 years of programming experience
  • Must have one or more years of experience with machine learning demonstrated in school projects or work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Linux environments, python, and source control
  • Exposure to machine learning, artificial intelligence, reinforcement learning, or related areas
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
  • Hands-on experience applying state-of-the-art algorithms to complex data
  • Familiarity with approaches for sequential decision-making and/or active learning

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
