Linux System Administrator - EOSL

Job Description

The Linux System Administrator in Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) will be responsible for Linux system administration for a 200-person lab. They will work with other lab computer support personnel and GTRI high-performance computing technicians and administrators to maintain lab computing assets in support of research for the government and other customers.

Job Duties

  • Maintain system administration on classified and unclassified Linux systems
  • Establish and maintain a deployment environment to aid in the building of future systems, document system hardware, and software baselines
  • Contribute to a shared knowledge base to document procedures and processes relating to the design, operation, and maintenance of information technology systems

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience
  • System Administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or Ubuntu
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Comfortable with a modern scripting language (e.g., Python or Bash), an IaC framework (e.g., Ansible or Puppet), and a version control system (e.g., git or SVN)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability and desire to automate repetitive tasks quickly and thoroughly
  • Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally work nights or weekends with advanced notice

Preferred Qualifications

  • System administration experience in STIG, RMF, and CMMC compliant environments
  • Experience with Cisco IOS and NX-OS
  • Experience with Ansible
  • Experience with Apache
  • Experience with enterprise storage systems
  • CISSP certification

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
