We are looking for a test engineer that can work along side our team to independently test and qualify hardware. This ranges from installing through basic hardware validation and solving problems to defining, coding and running tests in addition to detailing and publishing the results. The main focus is system level testing as well as adjacent areas like network and lab services. You will work in a LINUX dominated environment that is currently based on X86 architecture.

The role is located at the intersection of teams building systems, domain professionals that test components, networking as well as SRE teams deploying servers.

Key Qualifications

  • Hands on in the lab (experience with a lab environment at scale 100+ systems; install / de-install / repair / validate)
  • Deep system architecture (dual socket intel system) and component knowledge (hardware triage)
  • Validated understanding of provisioning and boot process (UEFI, DHCP, DNS, netboot)
  • Working understanding of LINUX kernel and modules / drivers (ability to compile driver is a plus)
  • Component firmware upgrade process
  • Basic understanding of network infrastructure (basic troubleshooting of layer 1, 2 and 3)
  • Tried and true scripting knowledge and basic coding knowledge (Python and bash at a minimum, C and Go is a bonus)
  • Ability to lift 50lb (required for system installation)

Description

Work with the sustaining engineering team on new component qualification for existing systems. That entails preparing an existing for testing of a new component that is taking the place of an existing component. Defining, maintaining and running through a battery of tests to confirm accurate functionality of the new component.

Reconfiguration existing systems with updated specifications to meet modified requirements and perform tests to validate accurate functions in line with modified requirements. Review results with SRE teams and engage SMEs when required.

Support early product development life-cycle by running tests on pre-production hardware and document results.

Build, install and test updated drivers as part of the testing process for new firmware.

Build and maintain custom hardware to test various environmental conditions for power and temperature. Design and implement tests as well as inject errors into high speed busses.

Design and maintain tool stack to perform burn-in testing for commodities under different circumstances.

Work with a large team of highly motivated individuals and guide junior members of the team.

Participate in production issue team concern as well as project work.

Wipe, decommission and part out obsolete hardware.

Education & Experience

Bachelors degree or equivalent

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to lead multiple tasks is very helpful so any experience as PM for example would help. The ability to understand and adjust to shifting priorities is key.
  • Strong communication skills as well as clear articulation in thought and intent. The results my not always be conclusive, so being able to clearly communicate what exactly was done and what was achieved is another important trait!
  • The team is rather small and you will be working is close quarters. Any experience working as a member of a team rather than an isolated individual is also very important. Clear understanding of cooperation and individual motivation will go a long way to success, even as an individual contributor.
