Applications are invited for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader (Assistant/Associate Professor) position in Networked Systems to join the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh. The post is based within the School’s Institute for Computing Systems Architecture (ICSA), which focuses on all aspects of systems including architecture, networking, compilers, systems software, applied databases and security.

We are seeking current and future leaders in the field. The successful candidate will have (or be near to completing) a PhD, outstanding track record of research, evidence of growing reputation, an ambitious vision and research agenda, the enthusiasm and ability to undertake original research, to lead a research group, and to engage with teaching and academic supervision.

Appointment will be full-time and open-ended.

The candidate appointed for this position will be based in the Institute for Computing Systems Architecture (ICSA), one of the six research institutes within the School of Informatics. Research conducted within ICSA concerns design and engineering of software and hardware components of computer systems to support current and future applications. Current research thrusts in ICSA include compilers, architecture, storage systems, parallel and distributed systems, wireless and data centre networks, dependable systems, mobile computing, and IoT systems.

This position is part of our ongoing effort to widen and strengthen our profile of Computer Systems research across the School. It is particularly aimed at strengthening and growing the existing networks research group in ICSA with links to other Institutes and groups across the School. As such, candidates with research expertise in Networked Systems are invited to apply. Representative areas of interest include but not limited to:

  • Software-defined networking & Network functions virtualisation
  • Data centre networks
  • Next-generation mobile and wireless networks
  • Network measurement, monitoring and management
  • Data-driven networking
  • Architectures and protocols for future networked systems
  • Networked systems in the context of specialised and vertically integrated systems
  • User space network stacks
  • High-performance networking interfaces in operating systems

The School currently offers multiple undergraduate and MSc courses in networked systems and related areas. The successful candidate would be expected to contribute to teaching in this context through specialist courses in networked systems.
