The Department of Computer Science, College of Staten Island, CUNY seeks to fill two new Lecturer positions in Computer Science. The successful candidates will be expected to teach both foundational computer science courses like introduction to programming, data structures, operating systems, database systems, and algorithms, and specialization courses in one or more of the following areas: software engineering, mobile and web development, security, data science and artificial intelligence. The successful candidate also will be required to participate in student recruitment and mentoring, and department and college activities such as curriculum development, assessment and service.  This position is eligible for a Certificate of Continuing Employment after five consecutive years of employment.

Examples of courses this position would teach:

CSC 126 Introduction to Computer Science, CSC 211 Intermediate Programming, CSC 326 Data Structures, CSC 490 Seminar in Computer Science.

About the Program:

CUNY 2x Tech is a $20M Mayoral initiative to double the number of tech bachelors awarded by public colleges by 2022. It entails a comprehensive investment in the instruction, advising, and experience that are essential to prepare New Yorkers for 21st-century tech jobs in NYC. All CUNY 2x Tech faculty and staff members will play a critical role in ensuring that the college’s tech education is aligned with industry demand. The role will involve significant work directly with NYC-based industry partners and the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline to review curricula, provide feedback on students’ job-readiness, teach in the classroom, and ensure that overall tech education provided by the college is preparing students with the academic and career readiness skills they need to succeed.

About the Institution:

The College of Staten Island (CSI) is a 204-acre landscaped campus, the largest in New York City. It is fully accessible from the other boroughs of the City and New Jersey by car and public transportation. The Computer Science Department offers the degrees of BS in Computer Science, BS in Computer Science-Mathematics, BS in Information Systems and Informatics, AAS in Computer Technology, and MS in Computer Science. The BS in Computer Science has been continuously accredited by ABET since 1989. Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.

Preferred qualifications include:
Master's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field is required. Evidence of excellence in teaching a wide range of courses in Computer Science. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach one or more of the following specializations: software engineering, mobile and web development, game development, security, data science, and artificial intelligence. Preference will be given to candidates with industry experience in software.
