Lead Front-End Developer/Designer

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for a front-end developer/designer with a keen eye for design to work with a highly collaborative team to develop our public-facing website. You will play an integral role in the specification, design, build, test, and support of our website and web applications for SEL. We work on a variety of projects to support our customers as well as Sales and Marketing at SEL.

You will be responsible for ensuring the alignment of web design and user experience requirements, optimizing web pages for maximum efficiency and maintaining brand consistency across all web pages, among other duties.

You will work in teams alongside Back-end Developers, Graphic Designers and User Experience Designers to ensure all elements of web creation are consistent. This requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Front-End Developer/Designer Responsibilities:

  • Work in multidisciplinary team with other professionals such as Back-end Developers and User Experience Designers
  • Build high-quality mockups and design different prototypes
  • Ensure user experience determines design choices
  • Develop features to enhance the user experience
  • Strike a balance between functional and aesthetic design
  • Ensue web design is optimized for smartphones
  • Build reusable code for future use
  • Ensure all designs follow accessibility and inclusivity standards defined by WCAG, ADA,
  • Optimize web pages for maximum speed and scalability
  • Maintain brand consistency throughout design
  • Keep abreast of latest and emerging technologies
  • Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles
  • Understand. Create. Simplify.
  • Other duties as assigned

Front-End Developer/Designer Requirements:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Web Design, or related field
  • Understanding of key design principles
  • Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Proficiency with a CSS preprocessor like SASS or LESS
  • Experience with responsive and adaptive design
  • Understanding of SEO principles
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
