Lead Designer (athenahealth, Inc.; Austin, Texas): The Lead Designer will contribute to our award-winning electronic health record and physician practice management products. The individual in this role will work closely with a multi-disciplinary agile R&D team to define, design, and test product and digital service features with the goal of creating valuable and delightful experiences for our users. The Lead Designer will embrace the challenge of elevating design within an enterprise product team, where user experience competes for attention against many other valid R&D priorities. Specific duties include: identifying and framing user-centered problems effectively; planning and facilitating problem identification and solutioning workshops; creating low- to high-fidelity sketches to communicate concepts and ideas; collaborating with product and engineering teams throughout the agile planning, design, and development process to deliver a released product that meets design intent; collaborating with the team to ensure product features meet UX quality standards for workflow, interaction design, and microcopy; building a deep understanding of healthcare workflows by planning and executing user, client, and domain research; co-owning business goals for the scrum team with partners in the Product and Engineering organizations; partnering with product and engineering leads to help define how initiative strategy impacts the scrum team and its projects; drafting UX workflows that can guide detailed Agile design and development; ensuring design work is conducted using behavioral data focused on user-centered product success metrics; facilitating product and engineering teams in building deep empathy for our users; demonstrating and promoting best practices for working with product owners and scrum teams; participating in team-wide initiatives to improve design processes and practices; and guiding junior members of the team through mentorship and design reviews.

Requirements

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a related design field; and 3 years of experience in a UX design role.

 

Must have demonstrated: capability in UX creative and design techniques; experience facilitating, summarizing, and acting on take-aways from user research; experience working within agile development process for the design, development, and delivery of software; verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence colleagues and project direction without direct authority; ability to manage ambiguity, change, and uncertainty, focusing on the information at hand; ability to effectively keep work moving forward; ability to take appropriate risks through cost/benefit analysis of various alternatives; ability to adapt to ever-changing needs of a dynamic business with flexibility and willingness to jump into any aspect of work to help the team achieve results; enthusiasm for learning new problem spaces, with an ability to deeply immerse in a problem, rapidly develop an understanding, and produce actionable insights; ability to work in a highly collaborative, cross functional environment; and experience using Sketch design tool to create tangible examples of final design and ability to make art development ready. (Unless otherwise indicated, athenahealth, Inc. is seeking the ability in the skills listed above with no specific years of experience required. All experience can be gained concurrently.)
