MITREs Network Technology and Security Department, part of the the Infrastructure and Networking Technical Center, is looking to add several talented Cloud Networking Engineers to the team. Our Technical Center supports many cloud initiatives, from initial concept development to operational improvement, across MITREs sponsors in national defense, homeland security, intelligence, and public sectors.


We are seeking talented engineers with a background in networking and cloud technologies and a passion to learn DevOps technologies, automation, application migration, infrastructure orchestration, and related cloud-oriented technologies. You will work as part of a collaborative team of scientists and engineers who are working to formulate solutions to our nations most critical problems. As a cloud networking engineer, you may be expected to:


  • Develop prototypes of cloud services for MITREs sponsors as part of concept development and risk reduction efforts.

  • Work in collaborative research teams developing innovative solutions in cloud security, integrity, optimization and other areas.

  • Investigate application profiles and develop cloud migration strategies.

  • Perform performance assessments of deployed private and public cloud solutions and recommend optimization strategies.

  • Collaborate with commercial vendors, academia, and other organizations to develop state-of-art best practices for MITREs sponsors.

Minimum Qualifications:

BS and 8 years related experience. Defines work programs greater than themselves. Technical thought leader across department.

  • Proficiency with one or more programming and scripting languages (Java, C/C++, Python, Ruby, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or related field.

  • Proficiency with one or more DevOps, Configuration Management, and Orchestration technologies (Chef, Docker, Puppet, etc.)

  • Experience with one or more commercial cloud hosting platforms

  • Proficiency with Linux OS.

  • Strong understanding of standard networking protocols (HTTP, DNS, STP, OSPF, etc.)

  • Experience or coursework, and strong interest in cloud technologies, Software Defined Networking (SDN), or Networking Functions Virtualization (NFV)


Candidates are also expected to possess:

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work well in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Be self-motivated to learn new technologies and domain areas.
