We have an opening for a Laser Electro-Optics Technologist (LEOT) supporting Photonic Doppler Velocimetry (PDV), Pyrometry, Spectrometry, and other diagnostic systems. You will work in a multidisciplinary team to develop, deploy, and maintain systems for experimental activities at Livermores High Explosives Applications Facility (HEAF), the Joint Actinide Shock Physics Experiment Research (JASPER) Facility in NV, and experiments at other sites. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the Engineering Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the 531.2 or 531.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Interact with scientific, operations, and engineering staff to perform experimental set-up and data acquisition of the PDV and other diagnostics.
- Perform moderately complex maintenance, operation, repair, and upgrades of existing systems.
- Generate and maintain system documentation including operations procedures and electro-optical configuration drawings.
- Perform periodic maintenance activities on diagnostics.
- Use computer-based data acquisition and controls to acquire data.
- Produce supportive documentation and graphics using drafting, design, engineering, and scientific programs on computer systems.
- Travel to multiple sites to install and troubleshoot needed diagnostics on a demanding schedule while cooperating with other team members who are providing different essential components.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition at the 531.3 Level
- Review and analyze data and provide written reports to Principle Investigators.
- Interpret requirements for electro-optical assemblies and collaborate on design of diagnostic systems, design subsystem components, fabricate/coordinate fabrication of new chassis/systems.
- Serve as a technical lead for engineering principles to solve complex problems using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures up to and including designing new diagnostics.

Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Laser Electro-Optics, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Intermediate experience and knowledge of electronics, electro-optics design, electro-optics technology, and/or fabrication & assembly.
- Experience working with high speed digitizers/oscilloscopes.
- Experience in business processes and safe work control practices.
- Experience working effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Possess effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Experience working with various computer systems for data collection.
- Ability to travel.
In Addition at the 531.3 Level
- Advanced skills and understanding of electronics and/or electro-optical technology with the ability to design complex systems and solutions to problems under minimal supervision and providing technical direction to others.
- Advanced skills with electro-optical assemblies and precision laser alignment operations.
- High-level technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with classified materials and experimental data and/or experience as working with high explosives and initiation systems.
- Experience with engineering software tools such as SolidWorks, CREO, LabView, or MATLAB.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
