Job Summary:
The Materials Engineering Department, which functions within the Mechanical Products Team (MPT) is responsible for managing the compliance, strategy, ongoing improvements, capital procurements and expense budgets of multiple Materials Engineering laboratories to fulfill existing requirements and future business needs. Materials Engineering is looking for you to join the growing Lab Strategy & Compliance team to be responsible for Materials Engineering laboratories located in the Northeast.

The ideal candidate for this position will be creative and innovative, possess strong problem-solving, organizational, coordination, planning, and analytical skills, and have a strong desire to facilitate and uphold world-class lab expectations.

You will
be responsible for day-to-day operational requirements within multiple Materials Engineering labs. Compliance to company directive documentation and best practices, and ongoing improvement will be particular focus areas, including the implementation of key projects levied by MPT Leadership, Engineering Lab Technical Council, or other key stakeholders. This position works closely with all levels of leadership in multiple organizations including Individual Contributor Engineers, Program Managers, Product Line Operation Managers, Subject Matter Experts, Responsible Engineering Authorities, IPT Leads, Chief Technologists and Chief Engineers.

You must be able to collaborate with customers, employees, and senior leaders when implementing process and procedural changes. Candidates should have high situational awareness, strong emotional intelligence, and be able to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously with diverse groups and customers.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:
  • Facilitate the transition of tasking from part-time Lab Coordinators to a small team of full-time Lab Leads as part of a significant change, alignment and process improvement effort
  • Facilitate robust lab user engagement to ensure their support and full participation in lab operations and improvements
  • Maintain laboratory compliance for multiple labs in accordance with all related company directive documentation to provide a safe, secure and capable environment. Compliance includes safety, security, documentation, and quality. Activities include (but are not limited to):
    • Hold lab users accountable for housekeeping and Lab Citizenship, ESD (electrostatic discharge), Foreign Object Elimination, and all other required practices
    • Maintain Lab Operating Procedures and access lists
    • Ensure lab equipment is properly calibrated
    • Ensure chemicals are properly managed and stored
    • Maintain proper storage of multiple classifications of property
    • Identify and control foreign object sensitive areas
  • Travel between labs in the Northeast (Andover, MA, Tewksbury, MA, and Portsmouth RI) is required
  • Take a proactive role in developing, understanding and implementing common lab processes, tools, templates and metrics
  • Ensure laboratories are audit ready at all times. Audits may include but are not limited to: Quality (Corporate and PPV), GFM, Environmental Health Safety & Sustainability, Security / DSS Assessment, Foreign Object Debris, Housekeeping, MDA, and DCMA / Customer
  • Communicate successes, issues, and opportunities for improvement to team members and Leadership
  • Lead by example by being a champion of respect, diversity and inclusion, ethical conduct and lab citizenship within the organization
  • Support the planning and implementation of Lab Operating / Expense budgets
  • Support Lab capital procurements throughout their lifecycle
  • Support the procurement and maintenance of equipment service contracts and ongoing equipment repairs

This position can be a G08 Lab Lead or a G09 Sr. Lab Lead, based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.

An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Masters is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Bachelors degree or additional 2 years of laboratory and/or factory coordination or management experience may be substituted for each 1 year of college
  • For G08 Lab Lead - A minimum of 4 years of experience in laboratory and/or factory coordination or management
  • For G09 Sr. Lab Lead - A minimum of 6 years of experience in laboratory and/or factory coordination or management
  • Experience with laboratory and/or factory or operations audit readiness procedures
  • Experience with inventory or property management
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
