The Materials Engineering (ME) Department, which functions within the Mechanical Products Directorate (MPT), is responsible for managing the strategy, compliance, capital procurements and expense budgets of multiple MPT / Engineering laboratories to fulfill existing requirements and future business needs. ME is looking for a candidate to join the MPT Lab Strategy & Compliance team to be responsible for a growing number of MPT laboratories and supporting duties across the directorate.

Job Description:
The ideal candidate for this position will be creative and innovative, possess strong problem-solving, organizational, coordination, planning, and analytical skills, and have a strong desire to facilitate and uphold world-class lab expectations. The candidate will participate as a member of the MPT Lab Strategy & Compliance section and will be responsible for day-to-day operational requirements within multiple engineering labs. Priority areas will include compliance to OD-PDD-011 and all related directive documentation and best practices, chemical and consumable inventory management, managing customer order requests using existing tools and processes, ongoing improvements, collaboration to produce practical solutions, and the implementation of key projects levied by Engineering Leadership, Engineering Lab Technical Council, or other key stakeholders. This position works closely with all levels of leadership in multiple organizations including Individual Contributor engineers, Program Managers, Product Line Operation Managers, Subject Matter Experts, Responsible Engineering Authorities, IPT Leads, Chief Technologists and Chief Engineers.

The Lab Lead must be willing to take full ownership of their lab(s) and be able to collaborate with customers, employees, and senior leaders when implementing process and procedureal changes. Candidates should have high situational awareness, strong emotional intelligence, and be able to effectively work multiple projects simultaneously with diverse groups and customers.

Key Responsibilities (will include a combination of some or all of the following):
  • Facilitate robust lab user engagement to ensure their support and full participation in lab operations and improvements
  • Maintain laboratory compliance as a high priority in accordance with OD-PDD-011 and all related directives for multiple labs to provide a safe, secure and capable environment. Travel between labs across Airport site required. Compliance includes safety, security, documentation, and quality. Activities include (but are not limited to):
    • Hold lab users accountable for housekeeping and Lab Citizenship, ESD (electrostatic discharge), FOE, 1.4, and all other required practices
    • Maintain Lab Operating Plans and access lists
    • Ensure test equipment is properly calibrated
    • Ensure chemicals are properly managed and stored
    • Maintain proper storage of multiple classifications of property
    • Manage 1.4 energetic assets and inventories
    • Identify and control foreign object sensitive areas
  • Collaborate with EHSS, Facilities Services, Lab Users and other Functional support roles to maintain and facilitate an organized and fully functional lab
  • Manage all ordering and inventory management activities
  • Manage extensive chemical inventory using ADM (Age Dated Materials) system
  • Take a proactive role in developing, understanding and implementing common lab processes, tools, templates and metrics
  • Ensure laboratories are audit ready at all times. Audits many include but are not limited to: Quality (Corporate and PPV), CAM, Environmental Health Safety & Sustainability, Security / DSS Assessment, Foreign Object Debris, Housekeeping, MDA, and DCMA / Customer
  • Communicate successes, issues, and opportunities for improvement to team members and Leadership
  • Lead by example by being a champion of respect, diversity and inclusion, ethical conduct and lab citizenship within the organization
  • Support the planning and implementation of Lab Operating / expense and capital budgets
  • Support the procurement and maintenance of equipment service contracts and ongoing equipment repairs
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment

Required Experience, Skills and Education:
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant and progressive experience in laboratory and/or factory coordination or management
  • Experience with laboratory and/or factory or operations audit readiness procedures
  • Experience with inventory management
  • Experience with budget planning and management
  • Bachelors degree
  • US Citizenship is required
