Job Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute is seeking research engineers or scientists having expertise in systems engineering, systems integration, and test planning and execution. Candidates will support SEALs Command and Control Communication Division (C3D) in the analysis, definition, and generation of system requirements, system trade studies, and various modeling efforts. Candidates will work in technical cross-functional teams in the designing analysis and implementation of alternative hardware and software technologies to update these C3 nodes and in the prototyping of next-generation technologies. Candidates should have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop creative solutions to complex technical and managerial problems.

In addition to performing applied research, candidates are expected to support management research efforts and support business development activities. Business development includes the identification of research topics, conceptualization and formulation of research efforts, interaction with potential sponsors, and writing white papers and proposals. Researchers are expected to be able to work independently as well as in teams. Applicants are required to possess both good written and oral skills in order to document and convey one's research to both internal and external customers on a regular basis.

  • Algorithm definition and development,
  • Modeling and Simulation (M&S) of sensors and systems, and
  • System performance prediction

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, System Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, or a related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, System Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, System Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, System Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Applied Sciences, or a related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than August 2021
  • Familiarity with the various phases of the Systems Engineering life cycle
  • Familiarity with interface definition and development
  • Familiarity in writing and executing system Test / Verification procedures
  • Familiarity writing requirements, performing traceability analysis, testing / verifying requirements
  • Familiarity with Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS)
  • Good problem-solving ability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Secret Clearance
  • Experience with DoD Intelligence communities
  • Experience with the DoD Acquisition Process
  • Experience with requirements development and management
  • Experience with Interface definition across multiple subsystems
  • Experience with Enterprise Architecture Tools (Commercial or open-source)
  • Familiarity with the development of an integrated system model (SysML and DoDAF Diagrams)
  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF)

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
