Job Description

The Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research Lab (CIPHER) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute is seeking someone with 1 - 4 years of experience whose primary responsibility will be in the design, development, and testing of secure web applications software. Candidates must enjoy working with open source software and cutting-edge technologies. Candidates will contribute to sponsored research projects and have an opportunity to interact with other scientists and engineers. The candidate should also have the desire to mentor and lead more junior developer teams.

Job Duties

  • Actively develop software and participate in Agile Scrum
  • Participate in a team of 5-7 software developers to address software bugs and implement new features
  • Participate in code review and mentoring other members of the team through code review and pair programming
  • Apply coding standards and practices
  • Assist in feature analysis and project scope analysis as needed

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical field of study.

Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree with a graduation date of May,2021 and skills relevant to this position will be considered.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 1+ years experience in applicable area
  • 1+ years hands-on development experience
  • Java web frameworks (Java 7 or later)
  • Java application servers (Tomcat/Glassfish/etc.)
  • JDBC (SQL) with relational databases (Oracle/PostgreSQL/etc.)
  • Unix/Linux
  • Cross-browser UI design experience (JavaScript/Angular/etc.)
  • Version control systems (Git/Subversion/etc.)
  • Unit test frameworks
  • RESTful API development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with service-oriented architectures
  • Experience with cloud-based solutions
  • Experience designing and documenting software architectures
  • Technical diagnostic expertise including problem investigation, reproduction, and resolution skills
  • Ability to acquire new skills efficiently
  • Strong skills in legacy and modern Java technologies, JSON, web services (REST and SOAP), JavaScript, data access components, and XML
  • Outstanding writing skills with an ability to convey complex, technical information in an engaging and easily understood manner
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • A continual learner that stays up-to-date on the latest technologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to rapidly develop and cultivate relationships with team members

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
