The CMRE is looking for a Junior Scientist that, under the guidance of the Project Leader, will be responsible to support the CMRE programme of work.

This work will be done in close collaboration with the programme of work of Data Knowledge and Operational Effectiveness (DKOE) project. The incumbent will also interact with the Research Department Head, and relevant Programme Managers and Project Leaders within CMRE.

The Junior Scientist will be asked to perform individual research as part of a project team. S/he may also be involved in different Programmes of Work or Projects within CMRE.

Role and Responsibilities:

The incumbent, under strict supervision and following given instructions, is responsible to perform science:

  • Under the direction and guidance of the supervisor, conduct and document theoretical or experimental investigation as part of a team working on maritime research problems in implementation of the CMRE’s Programme of Work.
  • Produce project deliverables, as well as conference and journal papers, or internal reports.

In order for the organization to deal with emergent requirements, the candidate may be required to perform other related duties as directed for defined periods of time.

Work environment:

  • The incumbent may be required to perform his/her duties on board CMRE’s or other Scientific Vessels and Boats, and may be called upon to perform like duties elsewhere in the organization.
  • (Flexibility Clause) In order for the organization to deal with emergent requirements, the incumbent may be required to perform other related duties as directed (in particular, the incumbent can expect to work as a member of Working Groups, Project Teams and similar organizational units for defined periods of time). 
  • Annual TDY Requirement: The incumbent may be called upon to go on temporary duty (TDY), both within and outside NATO’s boundaries.
  • The nature of this position may require the staff member at times to be called upon to travel for work and/or to work outside normal office hours.
  • The work will be performed in an office, laboratory or workshop environment, or on board ships, both in port and at sea. Slightly undesirable working conditions may apply at times. The risk of injury is categorized as: Moderate Risk.
