Job Description

The Communication Systems and Spectrum Division (CSSD) of the Information and Communications Laboratory (ICL) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is hiring for an RF Systems Engineer in a full-time role. CSSD currently has approximately 40 full-time researchers and staff operating on about $15M of sponsored research per year. CSSD focuses on three research areas; communication systems, spectrum sensing, and communications electronic warfare (EW).

GTRI ICL CSSD seeks an entry-level, highly motivated individual at least 1 year of work or school project experience to support design, development and testing of RF communications systems, waveforms, and protocols. The technical disciplines/experience required include strong theoretical background in RF and wireless communications, system design or project experience, experience with RF lab equipment, and automation of RF testing systems. The candidate will be expected to support sponsor briefings and prepare technical deliverables.

Job Duties

  • Research new applied techniques in RF and wireless communications areas to accomplish client objectives
  • Work with customers and project directors to derive requirements
  • Design and develop RF and wireless communications systems
  • Interface with software and hardware teams to carry out product design
  • Provide engineering support for prototype and production builds. Identify & design efficient test methods when required

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Material Engineering or a related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Material Engineering or a related field of study is required. 
  • At least 1 year of experience (including school projects) in RF system design and testing experience to include:
    • RF components such as amplifiers, attenuators, filters, mixers, ADCs, and DACs
  • Experience with lab equipment and lab test automation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in electronics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, material engineering or related field
  • Practical experience and design with RF components
  • Relevant experience in applied research and development
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a dynamic team environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Active DoD security clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
