Junior Professorship (W 1) tenure track (W 2) in

Theoretical Electrical Engineering

with temporary civil service status for an initial period of three years to start at the earliest possible date. The call is aimed at scientists in the early stages of their career.

The future job holder shall be responsible for the subject area Theoretical Electrical Engineering in research and teaching. Applicants should have proven expertise in the field of Theoretical Electrical Engineering that complements the existing expertise of the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.

Relevant experience in preferably several of the following research areas is desired:

  • Theory and mathematical modeling of electromagnetic fields

  • Theory and mathematical modeling of nonlinear dynamical systems

  • Network and graph theory for dynamical systems in electrical engineering

  • Numerical approximation methods and model order reduction techniques. 

It is expected that the prospective position holder will actively support and promote the interdisciplinary cooperation in existing and planned research networks at the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, especially in the emerging "Centre for Networked Sensor Systems (ZEVS)" as well as in new initiatives in the field of neuro-inspired and neuromorphic circuits and systems, artificial intelligence, regenerative energy systems, and maritime technologies. Experience in raising third-party funds and in academic teaching is an advantage.

Commitment to teaching and participation in the Institute's teaching activities is required, especially in the basic subjects of electrical engineering, in accordance with the teaching regulations. It is expected to hold courses in German and English and to take over compulsory courses in the field of theoretical electrical engineering.

After successful evaluation and if the additional requirements of § 62 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein are met, the aim is to upgrade the professorship to a W 2-Professorship. In addition to the evaluation of the junior professorship, a separate evaluation procedure is carried out at Kiel University, usually during the second phase of the junior professorship, in accordance with the current statutes.
