Job Description

The Electro-Optical Systems Laboratory (EOSL) RF Photonics and Advanced Materials (RFPAM) Division is currently seeking qualified candidates for a Junior DSP/FPGA Programmer. The successful candidate will conduct analysis, design, development, implementation, and testing of a variety of embedded Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) applications in RF Electronic Warfare systems. This may include applications dealing with signal processing, data communications, system security and mission data. This position will work closely with hardware, software, FPGA and system engineers to ensure the system functionality.

Job Duties:

  • Develop and/or improve FPGA embedded software applications
  • Analyze system and functional requirements to develop embedded solutions
  • Design and execute unit and integration tests
  • Integrate embedded software with hardware, FPGAs and other software designs
  • Draft, update and maintain design documents, interface documents, source code comments and change control documents
  • Participate in technical meetings with sponsors and industry collaborators
  • Develop technical papers for conferences and present briefings to potential sponsors
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science.

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in development using Nios, Microblaze or Arm embedded in an Intel or Xilinx FPGA, MPSoC, SoC or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FPGA development (VHDL, Verilog), testing and debugging
  • Experience with System on Chip (SoC) architectures (Zynq, RFSoC, MPSoC, Stratix w/Arm, etc.)
  • Experience with real-time and near real-time operating systems
  • Experience with FPGA embedded processors, such as Nios, Microblaze, Zynq, Arm
  • Experience with FPGA development environments such as Xilinx or Intel (Altera)
  • Experience with Electronic Warfare systems
  • Experience with code repositories (git, Subversion, etc.)
  • Experience in collaborating on software development projects, especially in scientific computing
  • Excellent communication skills

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
