Job Description

A full-time, permanent position is available starting July 2020 for an RF PCB Engineer in the Communications, Systems, and Spectrum Division (CSSD) of the Information and Communications Laboratory (ICL) at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). CSSDs main focus is in three research areas: communication systems, spectrum sensing, and communications electronic warfare (EW). CSSD performs a variety of advanced research and development including Radio Frequency (RF) hardware prototype development, clutter modeling, spectrum planning, network, and wireless system design, and many others. CSSD has many advanced communications and networking projects including 5G research, using AI to adapt to changing spectral conditions while controlling advanced SDR platforms with agile frequency adaptation. CSSD is also studying next-generation wireless communications systems to help improve network adaptation to environment conditions and create self-sustaining networks. As a junior Engineer, you will be supporting teams of 2-8 people in either a traditional or agile development process to create communication testbeds for use in laboratory environments in order to perform measurements of system performance and other characteristics while mimicking realistic operating environments.

Your primary tasks will include:

Interfacing with software and hardware teams to carry out product design

Conducting in-depth design reviews with internal and/or external development teams

Solving complex problems while utilizing troubleshooting and debug skills

Providing engineering support for prototype and production builds

Identifying & designing efficient test methods as required

Assisting with technical documentation; writing and reviewing

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in electronics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, material engineering or related field
  • Ability to operate in both Windows and Linux environments

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required minimum qualifications,

  • Masters degree in electronics, electrical engineering, computer engineering, material engineering or related field
  • Relevant experience in applied research and development, wireless communications field preferred
  • 1 year programming experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a dynamic team environment

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
