Job Description

GTRI is seeking an IT DevOps engineer who will provide support for an ongoing DoD Cybersecurity research and development program. Candidates will be required to research cutting edge and emerging technologies in support of developing mission critical Cybersecurity capabilities for the DoD and also support daily operation and maintenance activities on a variety of information systems appliances including servers, operating systems, and network appliances. This will include security patching, updating software, and optimizing systems' configurations. The candidate will have experience researching and implementing emerging information systems paradigms such as containerization, infrastructure orchestration, and automation and will be proficient with tools such as Puppet, Ansible or other like-tools to automate deployment of systems, manage applications, and enhance productivity. Experience working in an Agile development environment is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in performing research and analysis, being a problem solver, and a team player who is capable of working in a technically challenging environment.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or Math.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Masters degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or Math  and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or Math  and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or Math.

Required Minimum Qualifications

3+ years demonstrated experience as a systems and security administrator or engineer working with Linux or Windows server operating systems and Windows desktops
Strong communication skills to be able to accurately communicate relevant project technical information to stakeholders in a timely manner
Developing, coordinating, and implementing systems engineering plans, processes and procedures, requirements analyses, system definition and integration activities
Experience with and/or knowledge of implementing orchestration solutions such as Puppet, Ansible, or other like-tools to automate deployment and management of systems
Strong Linux troubleshooting skillset
Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis.
Secure Linux and Windows Operating Systems per DoD STIG requirements
Create, edit, and delete user accounts
Connect tools together via SSL
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required
Capable of basic network troubleshooting
Excellent verbal/written communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
Relevant technical certifications to meet DoD 8570, IAT Level II requirements
DoD Secret Clearance or above

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with scripting languages such as Powershell, Python, etc.
Working knowledge of VMware vSphere, vSAN, vCenter, and Horizon View
Understasnding of Windows Group Policy Objects (GPOs)
Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7.x
Familiar with SELINUX
Ability to conduct technical surveys, investigate technical issues, and determine/revise/improve technical solutions that address performance gaps and/or operational requirements
Strong understanding of Navy or DoD information technology and security architectures and frameworks
Strong understanding of Navy accreditation and change control processes
