The Currency Technology Office (CTO) is hiring an Intermediate to Advanced level Electrical, Computer, or Systems Engineer who will support the development of high speed sensors used to evaluate the fitness and authenticity of United States currency. The candidate will possess the ability to evaluate detailed design specifications to assess the overall technical approach used by third parties in the development and manufacturing of high speed imaging and authentication sensors. The candidate will possess the ability to influence design considerations and foster the development of products that will integrate into high speed currency processing equipment.

 

Understands and applies the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) concepts for product development. Exercises sound judgment in execution of duties.

Requirements

Essential Job Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following)

  • Independently review, analyze and evaluate vendor engineering design specifications to validate technical approach for the development of high-speed currency processing equipment and sensors in accordance with operational requirements.

  • Work closely with vendors to support hardware and software development efforts at the system, subsystem or component levels contributing to the accomplishment of integration and testing tasks.

  • Conducts experiments using simulation modeling in the development of sensor software to verify proper communication protocols, error handling, and signal timing.

  • Ensures test strategy and test plan design effectively validates improved functionality of high-speed currency processing equipment and sensors in accordance with operational requirements and design specifications prior to Bank’s acceptance.

  • Applies sound engineering principles to the development process of hardware or software used in the high speed processing environment.

  • Offers technical feedback for design considerations relating to the interface between the sensors and high speed transport.

  • Provides subject matter expertise to CTO’s Technical Change Control Board ensuring that any proposed changes benefit our customers and the Bank. Provides technical support for high-level initiatives.

  • Advises appropriate stakeholders of critical issues and opportunities affecting customers or Federal Reserve System objectives, as required, and proactively recommends technical solutions to increase effectiveness, reliability, efficiency, performance, and service.

  • Offers strategic consulting related to hardware and software testing, and interacts with customers, vendors, CTO department, and US government agencies as subject matter expert to resolve operational issues (e.g., machine performance, reporting & custody controls).

     

    Qualifications/Requirements Intermediate Engineer:

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering or related field is required, advanced degree desirable

  • Thorough knowledge of electromechanical systems and sensors, knowledge of testing procedures

  • Thorough knowledge of computers, computer architectures, programming techniques, network architectures and real time industrial fieldbus networks

  • Familiar with configuration and change management, requirements development concepts and best practices

  • Familiar with programming languages and simulation techniques for digital electronics

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Proficient ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks

  • Ability to author process documents, test plans, business and technical documents

  • Consulting skills, including the ability to effectively interpret and communicate complex technical information and provide information appropriate to the audience.

  • High level of PC literacy to include, spreadsheets, database, project management and word processing programs

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance (Secret)

     

    Qualifications/Requirements Senior Engineer:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering or related field is required, advanced degree desirable

  • Experience with requirements traceability, translation and System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies and tools.

  • Broad knowledge of electromechanical systems, sensors, and digital electronic design, knowledge of testing procedures

  • Broad knowledge of computers, computer architectures, programming techniques, network architectures and real time industrial fieldbus networks

  • Thorough understanding of configuration and change management, requirements development concepts and best practices

  • Broad knowledge of programming languages and simulation techniques for digital electronics

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Proficient ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks

  • Ability to author process documents, test plans, business and technical requirements, corrective actions, business strategy documents

  • Partnering skills, including the ability to effectively interpret and communicate complex technical information and provide information appropriate to the audience.

  • High level of PC literacy to include, spreadsheets, database, project management and word processing programs

  • Excellent analytical abilities, knowledge of statistical analysis and advanced mathematical modeling

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance (Secret)

     

    Qualifications/Requirements Advanced Engineer:

  • 9+ years of relevant work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Computer or Systems Engineering or related field is required, advanced degree desirable
