Job Description

GTRIs Cooperative Education (co-op) program offers you extensive opportunities to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment and rapidly improve your technical and leadership skills. The program allows you to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school.

The Aerospace, Transportation and Advanced Systems Laboratory (ATAS), is seeks co-op students to work in the Intelligent Sustainable Technologies Division (ISTD). Co-ops will perform research in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Robotics, and Automation and support the ongoing projects in the division. ITSD seeks students who are self-motivated and interested in gaining real world experience with software development in the areas of image processing, automation, robotics, as well as hardware/software systems integration. Applicants should have computer programming exposure (C++ and/or Python is preferred) and be willing to learn. Work activities will involve being part of a project team that performs the research and development activities in the Division. The immediate work may include the development of algorithms for 3D scene recognition, object modeling, controls for mobile robots and robot arms, and using 2D and 3D cameras.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Co-op

  • Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Computer Science (preferred), Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA
  • Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms
  • Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Python and/or C++
  • Task / team leadership experience
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Familiarity with Linux and open source tools
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas
